Frequently Asked Questions

We simplify common concerns, clarify details, and guide you through our services with ease.

What is an Employment Pass?

It’s a work visa issued by the Malaysian government to allow foreign professionals, skilled workers, and executives to work legally in Malaysia.

What kind of companies can apply for EP?

Only companies registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) are eligible to apply for Employment Passes.

Is registering with ESD for the first time difficult?

Not at all. With complete documents, the process is smooth — and we can assist throughout.

What are the EP categories?

Category 1 (executive), Category 2 (mid-level), and Category 3 (lower salary, short term).

What’s the maximum duration of an EP?

Up to 5 years for Category 1, 2 years for Category 2, and 1 year (renewable twice) for Category 3.

Can I apply for EP without a degree?

Certain technical roles allow substitution of experience for formal education. We will evaluate case by case.

Can I change employers with an EP?

Yes, but a new application is required, and the existing EP must be cancelled.

Can EP holders bring their spouse and children?

Category 1 & 2 holders can apply for Dependant Passes. Category 3 cannot.

Can EP holders apply for PR in the future?

After several years, yes — but approval is highly selective.

Is there an interview for EP applications?

Normally no, but in some cases, additional clarification may be requested.

Can I appeal if my EP is rejected?

Yes, once the reason is identified. We assist in resubmission and appeal.

Can EP holder’s children study in international schools?

Yes, with a valid Dependant Pass.

Is a Malaysian medical checkup required?

Yes, within 30 days of arrival at a registered panel clinic.

Can I enter Malaysia before EP approval?

You must apply for a Visa With Reference (VDR) first.

Is the EP a sticker or card?

It’s now a chip-based EP card, similar to an ID card.

Can I apply for EP if my passport is expiring soon?

No. You need at least 12 months of passport validity.

How early should I renew my EP before it expires?

At least 3 months in advance is recommended.

Is the EP shown in the passport?

No more stickers, but immigration records are linked to your passport.

Can I upgrade from Category 3 to Category 2?

Yes, but it requires a new application with updated salary & documents.

Will EP rejection affect my future travel to Malaysia?

Not unless fraud is involved. With proper guidance, future applications are possible.
